Waiting Game Publications President Bill Zapf Attains IFA's CFE Designation

Lithia resident Bill Zapf of WAITING GAME Publications was recently recognized as a Certified Franchise Executive by the Institute of Certified Franchise Executives. Zapf completed a comprehensive course of study in franchise management offered by the Institute, which is the academic branch of the International Franchise Association’s Educational Foundation. The International Franchise Association is the world’s oldest and largest organization representing franchising worldwide and hosted the presentation during its annual convention in Las Vegas, Feb. 17-20.

On Nov. 7, 1992, the Canadian-born and raised defenseman was checked from behind head-first into the boards and was left in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Despite losing his dreams on the ice, he has moved forward to build a company and to help others gain employment. At the IFA conference in Las Vegas, IFA President & CEO Stephen J. Caldeira spoke about the key role that franchising plays in U.S. job growth. Zapf and his business partners at WAITING GAME Publications are playing a small role in this initiative by being a part of the IFA.

Zapf serves as the President of WAITING GAME Publications, a franchise operation with 23 units throughout eight states and Canada. Zapf and his business partners developed The WAITING GAME in 2009 as a means of providing affordable and effective, targeted advertising solutions for small and mid-sized businesses. WAITING GAME Publications, LLC began franchising The WAITING GAME concept in 2011 and have achieved rapid growth as a result of the strong business model and full support provided to franchisees. Zapf attributes his training through the IFA’s Certified Franchise Executive program as playing a critical role in his success as a franchisor. “The IFA’s CFE program provides an invaluable resource to franchise executives through quality education and training about all aspects of franchising” says Zapf.

Most importantly, Zapf credits Rose DuPont, Manager, Certification Program and other key personnel at the IFA’s Education Foundation with allowing him to be successful. “What many people do not realize is sometimes even the most basic tasks can be difficult, but there is always a way, and everything is doable” says Zapf, “the staff at the Educational Foundation were very helpful in accommodating me and allowing additional flexibility to complete many of the required hours through their excellent collection of online resources.”

Nearly 1,500 franchise executives are now enrolled or have received certification. More than 300 IFA-member companies currently have one or more executives enrolled in the program that provides benefits such as specialized knowledge, industry recognition, peer-level networking and professional standing.

Candidates are required to complete a rigorous course of study to earn the CFE designation, which includes attending institute-sponsored educational seminars and workshops. The program enhances franchise professionals’ understanding of the industry’s fundamental and complex aspects.
